Neck pain is the second most common reason people seek out chiropractic care, and it is a common problem among office workers. One study estimates 42%-69% of all office workers will experience neck pain and headaches. One in six will experience long term or chronic neck problems. According to one study, taking a brief daily walk may help. In the study 387 office workers without spinal problems in the previous 3 months were asked to wear of pedometer and note any spinal pain in the next 6 months. Of the 367 participants who completed the study, 16% reported on onset of neck pain. Results showed for every 1,000 steps a participant averaged each day, their risk for neck pain fell 14%.

What about other forms of exercise? A meta-data analysis from two randomized control trials of over 500 participants revealed those who participated in a workplace exercise program, their risk of developing a new episode of neck pain decreased by 68%!

While it is not completely possible to avoid neck pain, evidence suggests those who participate in physical activity might lower the risk of neck pain.
